COFFEE'S
COMMON
THREAD

WE BELIEVE
IN THE POWER
OF
CONNECTION

That’s why we are weaving a thread that connects
you directly with farming communities in Colombia.

You-logo

You

When you buy Hilo coffee you’re an active participant in an alternative system to conventional coffee trade.

Small-scale
farmers

Provides families with an agreed upon regular living income, based on their actual costs of production and living costs.

Education-logo

Educational
projects

We sustain projects that help heal trust and division in communities, weaving a strong social fabric.

THE WAY WE DRINK
COFFEE
IS BROKEN

In the conventional coffee trade system, the middleman
makes money while families farm intensively just
to scrape by through the year.

Unstable
income

While we pay 15 – 30 euros per kilo for our specialty coffee, the families growing it only earn 50cents from this amount.

Social
problems

Farmers have overwork, often bringing their children to help. Illiteracy, for example, is something that happens
in these communities.

Environmental
degradation

Every year the equivalent of 140,000 football fields are turned over to new coffee plantations.
